The Majid Al Futtaim Mosque is a blend of architectural innovation and cultural reverence, seamlessly woven into the fabric of Tilal Al Ghaf. The design pays homage to the Ghaf tree, incorporating its distinctive geometry. The architecture presents an interplay between the urban and the spiritual, with a rotated square motif elegantly resolving the contrast of the surrounding cityscape and the qibla direction.
The mosque is clad in travertine, a material cherished by Mr. Majid Al Futtaim. Its four elevations are adorned with squared arches, each intricately carved with Ghaf leaf patterns. This arboreal theme extends to the Mashrabiya dome, evoking dappled sunlight filtering through a canopy of leaves, and transforming the space into a serene sanctuary that bridges the natural world with the divine.
The design of the Qibla wall features 630 triangular glass prisms, representing the year 630 AD, when Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) made his return to Mecca. This feature not only pays homage to a pivotal moment in Islamic history but also serves a practical purpose, dispersing natural light throughout the prayer hall.
The design incorporates 99 distinctively arranged prisms, carefully oriented with their flat faces turned towards the Prayer Hall, an intentional architectural decision that mirrors the 99 attributes of Allah. This element is further enhanced with the addition of teardrop pendant lights on the main ceiling, merging illumination, heritage, and devotion.
As worshippers approach the mosque, they are greeted by the front elevation, unfolding in a series of graceful arches, and revealing the galleria. This space serves as a transitional sanctuary, offering respite from the outside world and preparing visitors for the sacred experience that awaits within.
Along the wall of the shaded colonnade, an exquisite carving catches the eye and touches the soul; a Quranic verse beloved by Mr. Majid Al Futtaim himself. These carefully chosen words gently guide worshippers into a state of reverence and reflection, minds calmed, and spirits uplifted.
Encircling the mosque, the Bucida Molineti trees stand with their layered branches. At the plaza entrance, olive trees, ancient symbols of peace dot the base of the minaret, their presence a gentle reminder of the message carried in each call to prayer.
The air around the mosque is perfumed with the sweet fragrances of carefully selected flora. The delicate blossoms of Millingonia Hortensis, Plumeria Obtusa, and Murraya Paniculata release their heavenly scents.
